PROJECT BRIEF

The Project for Improvement of Facilities of Fisheries Qualification and Training Center

The Project for Improvement of Facilities of Fisheries Qualification and Training Center
OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT

Mauritania has good fishery grounds in the Atlantic Ocean, and the fishing industry is one of the pillars of the national economy. The country's fishing industry has historically developed driven by industrial offshore fishing by foreign vessels and coastal fishing by migrant fishermen, mainly from neighboring countries, and is supported by fishing boats and migrant workers from Senegal and other neighboring countries.
Therefore, there is an urgent need to train fishermen from their own countries who catch and process fish to ensure sustainable development of the fishing industry and employment for their own people.
The Fisheries Qualification and Profession Training Center (CQFMP) Nouakchott Headquarters is a core institution that provides training in purse seine fishing for inexperienced fishermen and training in classification and processing for those who wish to work in private seafood processing plants. However, it faces problems such as insufficient capacity and aging as a training facility, lack of and outdated equipment for practical training, and inadequate dormitories for trainees.
This cooperation will strengthen Mauritania's fisheries training implementation system and capacity through the reconstruction and expansion of the CQFMP Nouakchott and the procurement of equipment, thereby contributing to the development of fisheries-related workers in Mauritania.
