PROJECT BRIEF
Project for Strengthening Forest Management Systems in Bangladesh

OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT
In Bangladesh, natural disasters such as cyclones and storm surges are becoming more frequent due to climate change, and coastal forests such as mangroves, which are vital for disaster risk reduction and carbon absorption, are being degraded by illegal logging and land conversion. This project is a preparatory survey for grant aid that will provide the Bangladesh Forest Department with equipment, including patrol motorboats, drones, satellite data, and analysis equipment, to strengthen its forest monitoring and management capacity. By putting in place the equipment and systems needed to apply the results of JICA's technical cooperation in the field, the project aims to help prevent deforestation and forest degradation and to contribute to climate change mitigation and adaptation.
