PROJECT BRIEF
Project for Improvement of Facilities of Fisheries Qualification and Training Center (CQFMP)

OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT
In Mauritania, where fisheries support the national economy, much of the fishing had long relied on foreign vessels and migrant workers from neighboring countries. Developing domestic human resources was therefore an urgent task for sustainable growth and job creation for its own citizens. The Nouakchott headquarters of the Fisheries Qualification and Training Center (CQFMP), which played a central role in this effort by training people with no fishing experience, faced aging and overcrowded facilities and dormitories, as well as a shortage of equipment. This project rebuilt and expanded the headquarters facilities and provided training equipment, aiming to strengthen the fisheries training system and to develop the country's own fisheries workforce.
