PROJECT BRIEF
Project for Development of Malindi Fish Landing and Marketing Facilities in Zanzibar

OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT
In Zanzibar, Tanzania, fisheries accounted for 7.1% of GDP, and 25% of the population worked in fishing or related activities. Malindi fishing port, the largest landing site on the island, was used by about 1,400 people a day, but fishing boats landed their catch at a collapsed quay in dangerous conditions, and about 95% of users had been injured. In addition, trading, auctions, retail sales, and processing took place on muddy ground under the hot sun, causing serious loss of freshness. This project renovated and developed the landing quay and market building and procured related equipment, aiming to provide a safe, hygienic working environment and a stable supply of high-quality fish.
