PROJECT BRIEF
Feasibility Study for the Union of Comoros

OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT
The Union of Comoros aimed to develop its fisheries to improve the economy and the livelihoods of small-scale fishers, but budget constraints and other factors had delayed the development of fisheries infrastructure. This project visited 15 landing sites on Grande Comore Island and identified the current situation and challenges at each site through interviews with fishing leaders and fishers, analysis of existing data, and aerial photography by drone. The survey confirmed common problems, including a lack of basic infrastructure such as electricity and water, fish storage and sales facilities, and cool boxes and life-saving equipment. Based on discussions with the Directorate of Fisheries Resources, the project proposed target sites and the support required.
