PROJECT BRIEF
Feasibility Study for Projects in Grenada and the Dominican Republic

OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT
This project was a survey conducted in two Caribbean countries to explore opportunities for future cooperation. In Grenada, fisheries had developed to the point of exporting fresh tuna to the United States, based on fisheries facilities built with Japanese assistance. However, fisheries facilities were damaged by Hurricane Beryl, and in January 2026 the United States banned tuna imports. The survey examined the affected areas and Victoria Fishing Port and proposed a disaster-resilient multipurpose fisheries facility and technical cooperation to resume exports. In the Dominican Republic, the survey examined the catch and distribution of juvenile eels and proposed cooperation in stock assessment and the promotion of aquaculture.
