PROJECT BRIEF

Data Collection Survey on Fisheries Value Chain Infrastructure Development

Data Collection Survey on Fisheries Value Chain Infrastructure Development
OUTLINE OF THE PROJECT

In Bangladesh, fisheries accounted for 3.49% of GDP and employed about 18 million people. As growth in inland fisheries and aquaculture slowed, the government made the sustainable development of marine and small-scale fisheries a priority, but small-scale fisheries faced declining resources, post-harvest losses, and a lack of landing facilities. This project surveyed infrastructure needs across the entire fisheries value chain, from catching and landing to storage, logistics, processing, and sales, in the southern Chattogram region, and proposed the development of landing facilities at three sites as candidates for Japanese grant aid.
